Water birth.
Where earth’s fluid meets amniotic.
Where painful surges are met with warm embrace.
A safe space for my baby to land while transitioning between worlds.
I was dripping in radical responsibility.
Dripping in the peaceful bliss of my dream birth.
As a high risk pregnancy with a history of significant losses, I had BIG choices to make and own when it came to the birth of my daughter Penelope in the late summer of 2024.
Water birth had always been a dream of mine. Following 3 hospital births that left me traumatized, I chose to go after what I truly wanted and needed during my fourth pregnancy. With my background in nursing, postpartum care and deep understanding of pelvic anatomy, I knew a water birth was possible even with my rare cervical condition.
The number one reason I chose a water birth is because I wanted to be completely unmedicated. Buoyancy helps support the mother’s weight which relieves pressure on the joints / ligaments. The warmth of water helps relax muscles and soften tissue reducing the risk of perineal trauma. Water can also help reduce gravitational pull on the pelvis leading to easier management of contractions. This doesn’t mean there was absolutely no pain. But instead I welcomed it, utilizing water to help manage and get me through the surges.
My dream home water birth was beyond successful which lead me to launching my birth pool business. Serving women within my community with the most beautiful ivory birth pool setups and soft floating placenta bowls. The tranquility of white calmed my soul and allowed me to view everything that was going on so clearly. Ditch the blue pools and set yourself up with the most dreamy environment instead. You deserve it Mama!
